Mountain Music: Mountain Greens

Kale Lantz was born and raised in Nederland, Colorado, and is currently a college student in Washington, studying neuroscience and audiology. From an early age, Lantz played double bass in the orchestra before moving on to electric bass, but he never really experimented with creating his own music. One day, while hanging out with his friend Anders Holmgren, he started playing around with the Ableton digital audio workspace and fell in love with it.

After about a year of playing with the program, he was able to release EDM music that he was personally proud of, attaching the Mountain Greens name to it. Since then, he has worked to deepen his sound, taking a year off from high school and devoting much of his time to completing projects. He was able to complete an album during this time, Passiflow, which is now available on all streaming services.

Lantz cites Dirt Monkey and Ganja White Knight as major sources of EDM, inspirations that helped change his view of EDM from hating it to loving it. He also enjoys funk and artists such as Funkadelic and Herbie Hancock, as well as various hip-hop artists. He even cites Jimi Hendrix as one of his all-time favorite artists.

Lantz is excited to perform in the city of Nederland for the first time, as he will be among a crowd of people he knows well and who he hopes will understand his music much better. He likens a positive reaction to his music to how comedians should feel when a joke lands correctly, because there’s a rewarding reward to seeing people having fun with his music. He hopes that the show can give the audience a taste of his music and, above all, that the audience will have a good time.

You can see Mountain Greens perform with Subculture, Killa Nilla and YellGNatz in the Zubnotic Presents Bass Mountain show at The Caribou Room, 55 Indian Peaks Drive in Nederland on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Doors open at 7 p.m. with dinner available and the show starts at 8 p.m.
