Kel Mitchell kicks off the new year with a brand new book. The actor and comedian released Blessed mode in December, and leGrio caught up with him to break down the inspiration behind it, his journey so far and more.
Two-time Emmy nominee Kel Mitchell is feeling good. Many fans, of course, grew up watching him on All that and Kenan and Kel, the next movie Good Burger and more. Since then Mitchell has embarked on an incredible journey, one in which he has found strength in himself and in his faith. Blessed mode, described as a 90 day challenge, is a faith-based book to help readers with 90 “powerful devotions”.
“I wanted to do Blessed mode because I wanted people to be able to work on their physical strength, their mental strength and their spiritual strength, ”he shared with us. “A lot of people struggle with past regrets, depression, anyway, everyone handles stress differently.”
He added, “To me I was just like, ‘Yo, I wanna do a book called Blessed mode, where you really get into a state of mind, don’t you? ‘ “
He went on to explain that being in a “blessed mode” is responding with “love and joy” to any circumstances that may come your way. “You want to make sure you take care of yourself spiritually, with that right armor… to know that God is with you! “
Mitchell spoke about the struggles he has had in his life and how he has overcome obstacles like depression with his faith. After realizing he needed to “change his life”, he revealed that the next step was to recognize the patterns.
“I was like ‘okay, there are things that I have to delete from my life. The people that I have to delete and the things that I do, I have to delete them.’ After meeting an evangelist who helped guide him on his “new walk,” he developed a constant prayer practice which, he reveals, helped him focus on the purpose that “God wanted ”for him.
“Now I wanted to show love to others, I wanted to help others, and I started doing it,” he added. “God was like, ‘Hey, while you’re motivating me, I’m motivating you’… you literally have to renew your mind every day.” He continued, “People always ask me, ‘How did you get out of all of these things over the years?’ I was like, ‘I’m going to put it in a book.’ So I start with the scriptures, I tell a story about my life, I make you pray and then after the prayer, I have you apply it to your life.
He added, “It’s a walk of faith and it’s so beautiful… I just wanted to share it with others.
