What’s a Bu-Jew?
Well, it’s nearly Passover time again and, while I don’t practice ( being Asatru and all ), it always gets a special nod from my sister and I. See, my mother and her mother were both Jewish and practicing before my mother converted to horrid Christianity, so we stopped celebrating Passover which is a shame because it was so important to my family before that.
Personally my faith lies in Odin, and I’ve been Pagan/Heathen most of my life and, while I’m still a big fan of Judaism, I’ve
always been multipantheonic. I’ve always thought that Judaism, even though it’s the cornerstone of many of the world’s major Monotheist religions, has more in common with Pagan religions than it does with, say, Christianity or Islam, - such as tolerance, search for knowledge, etc. - and I think that in itself has given me a life-long respect for it.
Something I hadn’t heard about until today is the concept of combining Judaism with some of the truths of Buddhism considering they are, in fact, so similar. If you’re interested in that you can check out www.modernhaggadah.com and grab yourself a copy of their Haggadah that’s a blend of both Judaism and Buddhism, very cool stuff. It’s available through their website and on Amazon.com, on which they’ve been given glowing reviews.
Honestly, I was so young when we stopped celebrating that, while I have memories I can’t piece them together, and I don’t understand much of it, but I’d love to start studying again, and this seems like a great place to start!
